Enel Green Power Starts Construction on Oklahoma Wind Project

(Bloomberg) — Enel Green Power SpA, the renewable-energy
unit of Italy’s biggest utility, began construction on a 74-megawatt wind farm in Oklahoma.

The $130 million Little Elk project in Kiowa and Washita
counties, adjacent to the company’s 150-megawatt Rocky Ridge
wind farm, is expected to be operational by the end of the year,
according to a statement Tuesday. People’s Electric Cooperative
has agreed to buy the plant’s output, enough to power more than
27,000 homes, under a 25-year contract.

Enel Green Power is adding wind farms in Oklahoma because
of its “high potential and low risk,” Chief Executive Officer
Francesco Venturini said on a quarterly earnings call March 12.

Enel Green Power’s North America unit operates three wind
farms in Oklahoma that have a combined capacity of 534 megawatts
and is developing an additional 350 megawatts, according to the
statement.
