(Bloomberg) — SunEdison Inc., the best-performing U.S.
solar company, won contracts to build 33 megawatts of rooftop
arrays on industrial buildings in Southern California.
The 17 systems in Orange, Riverside, San Bernardino and Los
Angeles counties are part of a plan by Edison International’s
Southern California Edison utility to modernize its grid,
Maryland Heights, Missouri-based SunEdison said in a statement
Thursday. The utility has agreed to buy the electricity under a
20-year contract. Terms weren’t disclosed.
When complete, SunEdison’s publicly traded yieldco unit
TerraForm Power Inc. will purchase the systems, which are
expected to be operational next year and generate enough power
for about 63,000 homes.
SunEdison has gained about 59 percent over the past year,
the most of any U.S. company on the 21-member Bloomberg
Intelligence Global Large Solar Energy Index.
