Bloomberg New Energy Finance hosts first-ever Asia Summit

Shanghai conference will focus on trade, technology and transition to a lower-carbon energy system

Shanghai, 3 November 2015 – Bloomberg New Energy Finance (BNEF) welcomed hundreds of industry, finance and policy thought-leaders this morning to its first-ever APAC Summit, held at Shanghai’s Ritz Carlton Hotel. The two-day event titled “The Future of Energy” will address three themes: trade, technology, and transition to a lower-carbon energy system.

Michael Liebreich, chairman of the BNEF Advisory Board, told attendees, “We’re thrilled to be here in China, which has been the country in the world investing the most in clean energy in every year since 2012.

“China will attract $3.3 trillion of new investment in all power generation technologies between now and 2040 – nearly double the total for the Americas – and build more than 2,600GW of capacity, nearly 70% of which will be in renewables. And, as a leading manufacturer of clean energy technology, China is driving trade and the transition to a cleaner global energy system.”

Keynote addresses and one-on-one interviews with honored guests include: Ma Jun, chief economist, People’s Bank of China Research Bureau, Greg Hunt, minister for the environment, Commonwealth of Australia, Kim Yin Wong, CEO of Singapore Power and Richard Lancaster, CEO, CLP Holdings.

The conference will also host panels covering a wide-range of issues facing Asia, such as the financing of green infrastructure, technology and policy evolution, yieldcos, power projects in Japan and Asia’s role at COP21 in Paris. The Summit will hear from leading executives, investors and policy-makers from Japan, Australia, India, Korea and Southeast Asia, as well as those from China.

“We are delighted so many instrumental and influential speakers are with us today,” said Justin Wu, head of BNEF Asia. “As Asian output and wealth continue to grow, so does the clean energy economy. And that’s creating multi-decade opportunities for every type of business, government body, and financial institution. These opportunities will be measured not in billions of dollars, but in trillions.”

Featured speakers include:

  • Ma Jun, chief economist, People’s Bank of China Research Bureau
  • Greg Hunt, minister for the environment, Commonwealth of Australia
  • Kim Yin Wong, CEO, Singapore Power
  • Richard Lancaster, CEO, CLP Holdings
