Jamaica Signs Agreements for 78 Megawatts of Renewable Projects

The two wind farms and solar facility will cost $196 million, the island nation’s power utility said in a statement yesterday. Blue Mountain Renewables LLC’s project will be capable of generating 34 megawatts at a cost of $90 million. Petroleum Corp. of Jamaica’s plans to spend $46 million to build a third wind farm which will generate 24 megawatts.

The company’s Xinyu Xinwei New Energy unit will build four rooftop systems -- two at 5 megawatts, two at 4.5 megawatts -- beginning this month, Roseville, California-based Solar Power said yesterday in a statement. Construction is expected to be completed this year.

Brazil State to Have Solar Auction as It Seeks Local Panel Plant

Minas Gerais, in southeastern Brazil, is finalizing the rules for the November auction, Guilherme Augusto Duarte de Faria, superintendent of the state’s Economic Development Secretary, said in a phone interview yesterday. The state will set a ceiling of about 260 reais ($111) a megawatt-hour for the auction, which will involve 15-year contracts for power.
