Sept. 4 (Bloomberg) — Siemens AG and Associated British
Ports Plc gained approval to start building part of their 310
million-pound ($510 million) turbine production and installation
plant in the north of England.
The companies won consent from Hull City Council for
construction, assembly and service facilities at Green Port
Hull, Siemens said in a statement on its website. The operations
are part of plans including a rotor-blade plant.
Construction of the project at Alexandra Dock in Yorkshire
should begin this year and a planning application for the rotor-blade plant should be submitted by the end of the year, it said.
The U.K. at the end of last year had the largest level of
installed offshore wind capacity in Europe, with 56 percent of
all installations, according to figures from the European Wind
Energy Association. Siemens was the lead turbine supplier in
Europe with 60 percent of total installed capacity.
