Marubeni Picked to Build Two Offshore Wind Projects in Japan

(Bloomberg) — Marubeni Corp. will build two offshore wind
farms with a combined capacity of 145 megawatts in the northern
prefecture of Akita, the local government said in a statement
today.

The Tokyo-based trading company will build a 65-megawatt
station near the Akita port and a 80-megawatt farm near the
Noshiro port, according to the statement. The projects will
begin operations as early as 2021.

Obayashi Corp., Eco Power Co., Akita Bank, and Hokuto Bank
will also take part in the projects, the prefecture said.

Japan is promoting clean energy such as wind and solar
through an incentive program introduced in July 2012. To boost
offshore wind, the government set a separate tariff last year
for the technology higher than the rate for onshore wind.
