(Bloomberg) — Duke Energy Corp., the largest U.S. utility
owner by market value, won approval from state regulators to
build a 17-megawatt solar farm at Marine Corps Base Camp Lejeune
in North Carolina.
The solar project, which will span about 80 acres in Onslow
County, is Duke’s first on a military base, the Charlotte, North
Carolina-based company said Thursday in a statement. Terms
weren’t disclosed.
Duke Energy Progress will own and operate the power plant,
which Crowder Construction Co. has been contracted to build. It
will use SolarWorld AG panels and General Electric Co. inverters
and is expected to be operational this year.
Duke is developing three other solar farms in North
Carolina as part of a $500 million expansion plan.
