Scotland Awards Funding to Boost Development of Wave Energy

WES will receive the money over the next 13 months as it seeks to pool expertise from across the industry to boost the development of wave energy, the government said in a statement on its website. WES awarded its first contract to former employees of Pelamis Wave Power Ltd. to harness their knowledge after the technology developer ceased operations in November.

SunEdison Sees Installations Doubling as Solar Grows

The company intends to complete solar and wind power facilities with 2,100 to 2,300 megawatts of capacity during 2015, according to a presentation Tuesday. Last year it completed 1,048 megawatts of solar farms, compared with a forecast of 1,000 to 1,100 megawatts.

Lloyds to Buy Clean Power From Infinis U.K. Landfill Gas Sites

Lloyds will buy about 113,800 megawatt-hours of clean energy from Infinis every year for 10 years. That’s enough to power about 1,700 of its branches, Infinis said in an e-mailed statement. No terms were disclosed.

Japan Panel Proposes Solar Tariff Cut of as Much as 16% on Costs

The tariff for applications approved between April 1 and June 30 could be cut to 29 yen per kilowatt hour from the current rate of 32 yen under a proposal presented today by a panel in charge of reviewing the country’s renewable-energy incentives. The tariff would be cut again to 27 yen per kilowatt hour beginning in July, the panel recommended.

Wind projects with a total of 11.5 gigawatts of capacity are registered for the event, according to an e-mailed statement Monday from Brazil’s energy research agency, known as EPE.

Gamesa to Supply 75 Turbines for Brazilian Wind-Power Projects

The Uniao dos Ventos wind complex, in the northeastern state of Rio Grande do Norte, will receive 54 turbines, Gamesa said in an e-mailed statement on Wednesday. Owned by Serveng Energias Renovaveis, a unit of Serveng, the 113.4-megawatt wind complex is slated to start operating by the end of 2017.

BlackRock Buying 50% Stakes in Three EDF Wind Projects in Texas

BlackRock closed its acquisition of half of the 200-megawatt Hereford project in Deaf Smith County and agreed to buy the stakes in the 200-megawatt Longhorn and 194-megawatt Spinning Spur 3 wind farms after they’re completed later this year, the New York-based firm said Thursday in an e-mailed statement. BlackRock declined to disclose financial terms. The projects are being developed by San Diego-based EDF Renewable Energy, a unit of the French utility.

Cemex Joins Pattern to Develop Mexican Renewable Energy Projects

It’s the first step into electricity by Monterrey-based Cemex, which announced formation of an energy division Thursday that plans to build plants capable of supplying 3 percent to 5 percent of Mexico’s power needs. The company, which is the largest cement maker in the Americas, will invest about $30 million into Cemex Energia, it said in a statement.
