SunEdison Targets Brazil With $30 Million Solar Plant

SunEdison will invest $30 million in a panel factory in Brazil and has agreed to build solar power plants with local renewable energy developer Renova Energia SA, Jose Perez, the company’s president for Latin America, said today.

Canadian Solar Sells Mojave Desert Project to Dominion

Terms of the sale weren’t disclosed. The West Antelope Valley facility, which began operating this year, has a 20-year contract to sell power to PG&E Corp., Guelph, Ontario-based Canadian Solar said today in a statement.

Sustainable Power Signs $65 Million Utility Solar Deal

Under a 21-year contract worth about $65 million, Sustainable Power will supply electricity at 5.3 cents a kilowatt-hour, the Tempe, Arizona-based utility said in a statement on its website. Salt River Project pays an average of about 4 cents a kilowatt-hour for power during peak periods.

Brazil Wind Bids Set to Outnumber Hydro to Gas in Auction

A total of 14.2 gigawatts of planned wind-generated capacity from 577 projects qualified for the Nov. 28 event, the most of any energy source, Brazil’s energy research agency Empresa de Pesquisa Energetica said today in an e-mailed statement. That’s out of 821 submissions for a combined 29.2 gigawatts that also included solar, hydroelectric, biomass, gas and coal plants.

JinkoSolar Closes Remainder of $225 Million Equity Investment

China Development Bank International, the Macquarie Greater China Infrastructure Fund and New Horizon Capital now combine to hold about 45 percent of the company’s Jinko Power Engineering Group development unit, according to a statement today. The parent company also contributed capital.

Watershed Conservation a `Positive’ for Cities: Report

Preventing pollution and sediment from reaching potable sources often costs less than later treating that water, the Arlington, Virginia-based organization said today in a report that analyzed 2,000 sources of drinking water for 534 cities. The Urban Water Blueprint was completed through a partnership with the International Water Association and the C40 Cities Climate Leadership Group.
