Written testimony to the United States Senate Committee on Energy & Natural Resources on the Financing of Renewable Energy and Low-Carbon Technology FOREWORD BY MICHAEL LIEBREICH, CHIEF EXECUTIVE In 2006, renewable energy and low-carbon technology industries set a record with more than $100bn worth of financing transactions. Of this, $70.9bn was new investment, an increase of 43% over 2005. The remaining $29.5bn consisted of mergers and acquisition activity, leveraged buyouts and refinancings of assets. As of March 2007, there is no shortage of capital available for new energy ventures and projects, either globally or in the US.

Global Clean Energy Investment Overview – Prepared for the Clinton Global Initiative New York 2006

Executive Summary Investment in renewable energy and low carbon technology has more than doubled in the last two years. $48.9bn was invested globally in clean energy in 2005, up 62% from $30.1bn in 2004, making up around 10% of all investment in the energy industry worldwide. New Energy Finance estimates that this figure will grow by a further 30% to $63.3bn in 2006.
