NextEnergy Buys Another U.K. Solar Farm Before Subsidies End

NextEnergy will acquire a 6.5-megawatt facility in Devon for about 7.5 million pounds ($11 million), it said Thursday in an e-mailed statement. That means the fund now owns 14 assets totaling about 155 megawatts for a cumulative investment of 179.2 million pounds, it said.

Japan Approves 16% Solar-Tariff Cut on Falling Costs From July

The tariff for applications approved from April 1 to June 30 will be lowered to 29 yen (24 cents) a kilowatt-hour from 32 yen as proposed last month by a panel in charge of reviewing the country’s renewable-energy incentives.

World’s First Lagoon Power Plant May Get U.K. Subsidies

The government is opening negotiations with Tidal Lagoon Power Ltd. on its planned 320-megawatt power project in Swansea Bay, Wales, Chancellor of the Exchequer George Osborne said in his budget on Wednesday. It will assess whether the plant is affordable and offers value for money, and whether it will drive down costs for similar facilities in the future.

The 2.45-megawatt, 8,000-panel project in Chester, Virginia, is part of a program in which Dominion leases land or rooftops for solar installations, the company said Wednesday in a statement. Financial terms weren’t disclosed.

Severn Trent to Invest 190 Million Pounds in U.K. Clean Energy

The utility will invest largely in solar energy and anaerobic digestion, a process that breaks down organic waste such as sewage into a biogas for generating electricity, it said Wednesday in a statement. That will take the company’s clean-energy generation to 50 percent of total consumption by 2020 from 28 percent, it said.

Vivint Solar Plans Loans for Rooftop Customers Later This Year

Most customers sign a 20-year agreement to buy electricity generated by their rooftop systems, which Vivint Solar installs and maintains. The Provo, Utah-based company hasn’t released terms and rates for the loans, though “they’ll be very similar” to mortgage rates, Chief Executive Officer Greg Butterfield said in an interview.
