NextEnergy Invests in U.K. Solar Power Before Subsidies End

NextEnergy will acquire a 21.2-megawatt plant in Essex, northeast of London, for about 22.9 million pounds ($34.3 million), it said Thursday in an e-mailed statement. The investor will spend about 3.2 million pounds to add 2.6 megawatts at another site in Sussex, southeast England, taking it to 15.3 megawatts.

Sustainable Power Buying Stakes in North Carolina Solar Farms

FLS Energy Inc., a solar provider based in Asheville, North Carolina, is selling interests in about 63 megawatts of capacity, according to a statement Wednesday from Salt Lake City-based Sustainable Power. Terms weren’t disclosed.

First Solar, SunPower Joint Venture Will Own Rooftop Systems

8point3 Energy Partners LP will hold 432 megawatts in total capacity, according to a filing with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission Tuesday. The joint venture’s name “is derived from the average amount of time it takes light from the sun to reach the earth, which is 8.3 minutes,” the companies said.

U.S. Solar Jumps 30% as Residential Installs Exceed 1 Gigawatt

Developers installed a record 6.2 gigawatts of panels last year, including about 1.2 gigawatts atop homes, the Washington-based trade group said today in a statement. About 3.9 gigawatts of utility-scale and 1 gigawatt of commercial solar power were added.

Japan May More Than Double Geothermal Power Capacity by 2030

Hanwha Q Cells Agrees to Supply 75 Megawatts of Modules to Juwi

The photovoltaic modules will be delivered to Juwi’s Boulder, Colorado-based subsidiary for projects in the U.S., Jeff Juger, a Hanwha Q Cells spokesman, said Monday by telephone. Financial terms and details on specific projects weren’t disclosed.

Principal Solar to Build 72.9-Megawatt North Carolina Facility

The utility-scale solar farm, the Dallas-based company’s second in the state, will cost an estimated $154 million and be operational early next year, according to a statement Monday. Principal Solar is buying development rights to the project in Fayetteville from Asheville, North Carolina-based Innovative Solar Systems LLC in a deal expected to close no later than Aug. 30. Financial terms weren’t disclosed.

Canada Imposes Tariff on Imported Chinese Solar Equipment

As of Thursday, companies including JinkoSolar Holding Co. and Trina Solar Solar Ltd. must pay a tariff to sell products in Canada, according to a statement on the agency’s website. Preliminary duties linked to allegedly unfair trade practices were set by the agency and may change as the investigation continues, according to Michel Parent, a spokesman for the Canadian International Trade Tribunal, a judicial institution that weighs trade disputes.
