Acciona to Invest $500 Million for Chile Renewable-Power Plants

The company is planning 225 megawatts of renewable-power projects that must go into service in 2018, Alcobendas, Spain-based Acciona said today in an e-mailed statement. The contracts run for 15 years.

California Drought Needs 17 Million Olympic-Sized Pools

Water storage in the state’s Sacramento and San Joaquin river basins was about 11 trillion gallons below seasonal levels during the peak of the three-year drought, the National Aeronautics and Space Administration said today in a statement. An Olympic-size pool contains about 660,000 gallons of water.

U.K. Water Bills to Drop 5% in 2015 After Price Review

Ofwat announced the prices that 19 water and waste companies, including United Utilities Group Plc and Severn Trent Plc, can charge for the five-year period starting 2015. It said average water rates will drop by 5 percent, reducing bills by about 20 pounds ($31) to 376 pounds a year before inflation. The U.K.’s current inflation is 1.3 percent.

LDK Solar Agrees to Provide Panels for Power Project in China

LDK will begin delivering the panels immediately to Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region Electric Power Design Institute, the Xinyu, China-based manufacturer said today in a statement. Terms weren’t disclosed.
