Japan Could Triple Power From Renewables by 2030, Study Shows

Clean energy -- solar, wind, hydro, geothermal, biomass and ocean energy -- could account for 241.4 terawatt hours to 356.6 terawatt hours by 2030 depending on energy policies, according to estimates included in the study of renewable energy’s potential posted on the ministry website April 3. The report didn’t provide total power output levels for 2030.

Solar Power Agrees to Sell 6.4-Megawatt Project in Susami, Japan

SPI is selling development rights and the land used for the solar farm in Susami City, Wakayama Prefecture, the Shanghai-based company said Wednesday in a statement. The sale is expected to close this month. No terms were disclosed.

John Laing Environmental Group Buys 3 U.K. Solar Farms

The company acquired a 64 percent stake in a 14.7-megawatt facility in Cornwall and took ownership of two projects in Scotland and Wales with 15.3 megawatts and 8.2 megawatts in capacity respectively, it said Wednesday by e-mail.

Cameron Curbs Solar in U.K.’s Rural Areas With Shift in Subsidy

The government now requires many solar plants to bid for so-called contracts for difference in an auction instead of, in the old system, simply offering support to developers who satisfied the rules. The switch reinforces a program started in October to remove subsidies for farmers that use solar.

TerraForm Buys 168 Megawatts From SunEdison in First Quarter

SunEdison sold distributed-generation plants in the U.S. totaling 15 megawatts and 11 utility-scale solar farms in the U.K. with 153 megawatts, Beltsville, Maryland-based TerraForm said Tuesday in a statement.

Solar Juice was Australia’s leading photovoltaic wholesale distributor in 2013 and 2014, according to independent research firm SolarBusinessServices Pty., Shanghai-based SPI said in a statement Tuesday. Installations in Australia this year may reach 931 megawatts, according to Bloomberg New Energy Finance.
