BlackRock Buying 50% Stakes in Three EDF Wind Projects in Texas

BlackRock closed its acquisition of half of the 200-megawatt Hereford project in Deaf Smith County and agreed to buy the stakes in the 200-megawatt Longhorn and 194-megawatt Spinning Spur 3 wind farms after they’re completed later this year, the New York-based firm said Thursday in an e-mailed statement. BlackRock declined to disclose financial terms. The projects are being developed by San Diego-based EDF Renewable Energy, a unit of the French utility.

Cemex Joins Pattern to Develop Mexican Renewable Energy Projects

It’s the first step into electricity by Monterrey-based Cemex, which announced formation of an energy division Thursday that plans to build plants capable of supplying 3 percent to 5 percent of Mexico’s power needs. The company, which is the largest cement maker in the Americas, will invest about $30 million into Cemex Energia, it said in a statement.

Shinsei Bank to Provide Loan for 19MW Solar Station in Japan

The plant, to be set up in Hokkaido, will be developed by Watami Co., a restaurant chain operator, and Community Solar System Corp., Tokyo-based Shinsei said today in a statement.

Bluefield Solar Buying U.K. Sun-Power Farms for $83 Million

The fund has entered agreements to buy a 6.5-megawatt facility in Somerset, a 12.5-megawatt facility in Wiltshire and a 29-megawatt plant in Oxfordshire, it said in an e-mailed statement. Bluefield is funding the acquisitions with part of the 131 million pounds it raised in November, it said.

Southern Co. Court Loss Is Clean Coal’s Second Setback in Month

The Mississippi Supreme Court on Thursday ordered refunds to customers of about $250 million and told regulators to must reconsider how to pay for the $6.2 billion project, the most expensive coal plant in history. The Kemper County project -- the first commercial-scale plant to capture carbon dioxide and bury it underground -- is seen as a showcase for supporters of the technology, including the Obama administration.

Bolivia Hires Deea Solutions to Study 20-Megawatt Solar Plant

The Frankfurt-based company will study for six months the best location for the solar plant within the Oruro region in western Bolivia, the country’s Ministry of Hydrocarbons and Energy said Feb. 12 in a statement on its website.

Abramovich-Backed AFC Discusses Tie Ups to Start Fuel-Cell Sales

AFC is targeting the U.S., South Korea and Southeast Asia where there’s support for fuel cells, Chief Executive Officer Adam Bond said in an interview in London. The first deals from the talks should be in place within the next quarter, he said.
