China Hunger for Clean Energy to Leave No Rooftop Behind

China expects to install as much as 8 gigawatts of small solar systems this year, more than 10 times what was built last year. The country had almost 20 gigawatts of solar capacity at the end of 2013, a figure comparable to about 20 nuclear reactors. Most of that came from massive solar farms in remote locations and policy makers are now promoting smaller systems closer to where they’re needed.

Yingli Supplies 5 Megawatts of Panels for Bolivia Plant

The Isotron unit of Spain’s Grupo Isastur Ingenieria y Suministros Asturias SA installed 17,000 solar panels in its plant in the Bolivian state of Pando, Yingli said in a statement today. Pando has so far relied on diesel for power generation because the area is not connected to Bolivia’s national grid.

“We’ve got an intense focus right now on buying integrators so that we can expand our company,” James Nelson said today in an interview at Bloomberg News headquarters in New York. “We want to buy two other companies -- that’ll put us up close to $100 million in revenue. That’s ambitious, but it’s our objective.”

Sky Solar Delays IPO for Second Time Amid Supply Glut

The company, which would have been the first Chinese solar maker to list in the U.S. since 2010, postponed pricing yesterday after first failing to sell equity on Nov. 7. Sky Solar over the past week cut its target to $48 million from $150 million, according to regulatory filings. It also lowered its pricing range by more than one-third, to as little as $7 for each American depositary receipt.

Energy-Storing Batteries Will Boost Grid Reliability

Renewable Energy Systems plans two 19.8-megawatt storage units, one in West Chicago and another in Joliet, the company’s Broomfield, Colorado-based unit said today in a statement. When completed in August, the systems will be the largest on the continent, the company said. Terms weren’t disclosed.

Sempra and Con Edison Buy 75-Megawatt Nebraska Wind-Power Plant

Sempra’s U.S. Gas & Power unit and Consolidated Edison Development each will own half of the Broken Bow II wind farm in Custer County, according to a statement today. Sempra will operate and maintain the plant, which last month began providing power to about 30,000 homes. Terms weren’t disclosed.
