Solar Debt Financing on Pace to Reach Highest Since 2010

Solar companies borrowed about $18.4 billion through the third quarter, almost triple the $6.2 billion last year and $6.8 billion in 2012, Raj Prabhu, chief executive officer of Austin, Texas-based Mercom, said in an interview today.

Eletrosul Allowed to Borrow $84 Million for Wind Power From KfW

The resources will be invested in the expansion of its Cerro Chato wind-power unit, Eletrosul said in an Oct. 3 statement. The Florianopolis-based company will add 48 megawatts to the wind complex in the southern state of Rio Grande do Sul.

Northland Power Selling $207 Million in Solar Farm-Backed Bonds

The company’s Northland Power Solar Finance One LP unit is offering notes that will mature in June 2032 at an interest rate of 4.397 percent, according to a statement Oct. 3. Bank of Nova Scotia and Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce are leading the private placement.

OneRoof Energy Getting $16.7 Million Financing for Rooftop Solar

Black Coral Capital LLC and affiliates of the Hanwha Group, OneRoof’s two biggest investors, are providing credit lines for working capital and project construction, OneRoof said today in a statement. Part of the financing will be used to install about 175 rooftop systems.

TransCanada Buying 30 Megawatts of Capacity From Canadian Solar

TransCanada is acquiring three 10-megawatt solar plants, which have begun generating power, the Calgary-based pipeline company said today in a statement. The Ontario Power Authority is buying the electricity under a 20-year contract.

NRG Energy Buys Pure Energies for Web-Based Rooftop Solar

Pure Energies connects homeowners in Canada and the U.S. who want solar systems with local installers through its website. The purchase will help NRG reach more solar customers at costs that are as much as 50 percent lower than traditional marketing efforts, Kelcy Pegler Jr., president of NRG’s Home Solar unit, said in an interview. The Princeton, New Jersey-based company didn’t include terms in a statement today.

Clean-Energy Spending at $175 Billion on Chinese Rise

Spending in the third quarter gained 12 percent to $55 billion from $48.9 billion a year earlier, the London-based research company said today in statement. Almost $20 billion of that was in China, where solar investing soared to $12.2 billion from $7.5 billion.

Abengoa Signs 1.4 Billion-Euro Syndicated Loan to Refinance Debt

The two-tranche revolving credit facility, which was oversubscribed by 140 percent, involved a group of 20 lenders, Abengoa said today in a statement. Nine banks including Banco Santander SA and HSBC Holdings Plc led the transaction, it said.
