Solar Power Inc. Agrees to Buy 9.9-Megawatt New Jersey Project

The company is buying Beaver Run Solar Farm in Lafayette from Shotmeyer Solar LLC, which also agreed to lease land for the power plant, Roseville, California-based Solar Power said in a statement today. The deal is expected to close before year-end.

Rainfall in Africa May Rise With Greenhouse-Gas Emissions

Intense rainfall beginning about 14,700 years ago and ending 5,000 years ago in the Sahara and Sahel regions coincided with high levels of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere, the study said. It’s the first time scientists have used climate models to pinpoint a major cause of what came to be called the African Humid Period, said Bette Otto-Bliesner, one of the study’s authors and a scientist at the National Center for Atmospheric Research in Boulder, Colorado.

Forecast of Brazil Rains Will Halt Expensive Power Plants

If November’s weather continues, Brazilian rainfall may exceed the monthly average in December, alleviating a drought that has curtailed hydroelectric power supplies, said Hermes Chipp, general director of the electric grid operator ONS. Some of the highest-cost thermal plants may no longer be needed in March if wet weather lasts through the summer months, he said.
