First Solar Slides Most Since November as RBC Downgrades Shares

First Solar’s revenue will barely grow this year and next, RBC analyst Mahesh Sanganeria said, compared with the company’s estimates for an increase of 19 percent in 2015 and 2.5 percent in 2016. RBC cut its rating on shares of the Tempe, Arizona-based company to the equivalent of sell from hold, and dropped its 12-month price target to $34 from $54. First Solar plunged 7.3 percent to $51.06 at 4 p.m. in New York, the steepest drop in the Standard & Poor’s 500 Index.

SunEdison to Buy 60% Stake in African Power Plants From BioTherm

The plants, two solar and one wind, are selling electricity to state-owned Eskom Holdings SOC Ltd. under contracts with about 19 years remaining, according to an e-mailed statement Tuesday. The purchase from Denham Capital Management LP-backed BioTherm is expected to close “in the near future” after a review by the country’s energy department. Terms weren’t disclosed.

Solar Power Agrees to Develop 500 Megawatts of Projects in Japan

SPI will own at least 51 percent of a joint venture formed with Osaka-based K.K. Uniroot to develop the solar farms in Japan, the Shanghai-based developer said in a statement Tuesday. Additional terms weren’t disclosed.

Drax Providing Clean Power to Thames Water in $801 Million Deal

Thames Water will get all its electricity from renewables as a result of the deal, according to a statement on Monday from the water utility serving London. Already the utility, which provides water and sewer services to 15 million customers, gets about 20 percent of its power from wind, solar, hydro power and biogas.

Goldman has set up the Japan Renewable Project Bond Trust to provide clean energy developers access to “large-scale, more efficient capital market financings” as an alternative to loans, the company said in an e-mailed statement.

Ikea hasn’t decided whether it will continue working with Hanergy to offer customers rooftop panels, Hakan Nordkvist, head of sustainability innovation at Ikea, said Friday by e-mail. The Hong Kong-based solar company saw $19 billion in market value wiped out Wednesday before trading was halted.
