Most LNG export plants in North America will be built in the US. The US Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) issues environmental (operations and siting) permits to LNG project developers, which have take longer than most developers anticipated. Permitting and other delays have a material impact on total gas demand because LNG export plants are large gas consumers.

Based on probable delays, we estimate that the greatest jump in incremental gas demand will be in 2018, instead of 2017 (based on original developers’ schedules).
