Oct. 22 (Bloomberg) — Boeing Co. and the Commercial
Aircraft Corp. of China started a demonstration plant to convert
waste cooking oil into clean jet fuel.
The project aims to examine the feasibility and cost of
producing biofuel on a commercial scale, the Chicago-based
planemaker said today in a statement on its website. The
companies estimate that as much as 500 million gallons of
biofuel may be produced every year in China from used cooking
oil.
Airlines are moving toward using clean fuel after a pledge
by the International Air Transport Association to cut emissions
by half by 2050 from 2005 levels.
