Sept. 1 (Bloomberg) — An 8.2-megawatt solar-power station
developed by Orix Corp. and Kyudenko Corp. began operations at a
former airport in southwestern Japan.
The project marks the first time that a solar-power plant
was built on a former airport site in Japan, Orix, a Tokyo-based
finance and leasing company, and Kyudenko Corp. said in a
statement today.
Makurazaki airport, faced with mounting budget deficits,
closed in March 2013, according to the statement. The facility
opened in 1991 in Kagoshima prefecture as Japan’s first commuter
airport.
Kyudenko is a builder of power transmission and
transformation facilities in Fukuoka.
