(Bloomberg) — SunEdison Inc., a U.S. renewable-energy
developer, is planning to build three solar farms in southern
Utah with a combined capacity of 262 megawatts.
Construction on the projects in Iron County is expected to
begin later this year and they’ll begin producing power in 2016,
the Maryland Heights, Missouri-based company said Thursday in a
statement.
PacifiCorp, which serves about 1.8 million customers, has
agreed to buy electricity from the 63-megawatt Granite Mountain
Solar West plant, the 100-megawatt Granite Mountain Solar East
plant and the 99-megawatt Iron Springs Solar plant, under 20-year contracts. SunEdison expects to offer the projects to be
purchased by its yieldco unit TerraForm Power Inc.
SunEdison is developing more than 720 megawatts of solar
power in Utah. The company expects to complete solar and wind
projects with 2,100 megawatts to 2,300 megawatts of capacity
this year. Installations are expected to rise next year to 2,800
megawatts to 3,800 megawatts.
