Overview
Google aims to scale up next generation technologies like geothermal, nuclear and long duration energy storage this year, Lucia Tian, the company’s head of advanced energy technologies said at the BloombergNEF Summit in San Francisco on January 26-27, 2026. The company did a lot of “first-of-a-kind projects in 2025 and this year we’re looking to really scale that up…because the need is bigger than ever,” she said.
Google’s partners include Kairos for nuclear power, Energy Dome for long duration energy storage and Fervo Energy for geothermal.
The AI and cloud infrastructure provider is a large user of power. By helping technologies scale, it expects to help drive down prices for everyone, she added.
